2022-23 Equity Adjustment: FAQs

2022-23 UC DAVIS ACADEMIC SALARY EQUITY PROGRAM

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any additional questions about the 2022-23 Equity Adjustment, please reach out to Brian Darnell and Cathy Wu at aadatamanagers@ucdavis.edu.

  • When will I receive my equity adjustment?
  • For those on state-funds, equity adjustments will be reflected on your December 1, 2022 paycheck with retroactive pay dating back to an effective date of October 1, 2022. For those supported through extramural funding, the effective date of equity adjustments will be flexible and based on the responses to the "Funding Availability Form" with an earliest effective date of October 1, 2022.
  • Does the salary equity program address market comparisons?
  • No, this salary equity program is focused on addressing internal inequities at UC Davis that arise through differences in off-scale components of the total salary for faculty and academics within colleges and schools in the same academic series.
  • Are new hires after May 31, 2022 eligible?
  • No, the salary equity program only applies to eligible non-HSCP faculty and academics that were employed prior to May 31, 2022.
  • I'm supported by extramural funding. Am I required to accept my equity adjustment?
  • Academics that generate their salaries through extramural support will not be required to accept their equity adjustments if they are unable to secure funding for them. However, if equity adjustments, in the form of off-scale salary components, are accepted and funded, then these faculty and academics will be expected to continue to permanently fund them. If funding is later insufficient to fund these off-scale salary components, then a reduction in percentage effort will be necessary. See our Funding page for more information.
  • What if there is only one job in an equity comparison group?
  • Equity comparison groups were created based on a variety of factors. Details on how these groups were constructed can be found on the Implementation Details page. Equity comparison groups consisting of one job were excluded from the equity calculations.
  • What if an equity comparison group has no off-scales?
  • An Equity comparison group where no jobs have traditional off-scales generates no equity results, as the mean off-scale is 0.
  • Do academics who currently have no off-scale salary component receive any benefit from this equity adjustment?
  • The salary equity plan will potentially provide academics meeting the eligibility criteria who currently do not have any off-scale to now receive one. Academics with no off-scale salary will receive a larger equity adjustment under this plan than others in their comparison group who currently have some off-scale salary component.
  • My job situation changed between May 31, 2022 and October 1, 2022. Am I still receiving an equity adjustment?
  • For most situations, any determined equity adjustments will be applied to your new academic position if applicable.
Example:  A professor advanced above scale. The equity calculations were done based on their current peers/equity comparison group as of May 31, 2022.  If an equity adjustment was generated, the same amount would be added to their above scale salary.
  • I am a full-time administrator. Am I eligible to receive an equity adjustment?
  • Full time administrators are not eligible to receive an equity adjustment as their salaries are paid on titles outside of the scope.
