Sandra M Gilbert

Author, poet and professor emerita of English Sandra Gilbert received the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award, with longtime colleague Dr. Susan Gubar of Indiana University. The pair co-wrote the groundbreaking work of feminist theory Madwoman in the Attic: The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth-Century Literary Imagination (1979), described as “a nuanced study of the tenuous position of women writers and women characters within a patriarchal culture," and No Man’s Land: The Place of the Woman Writer in the Twentieth Century, a three-volume work (1989-94).
