Managing Medical Disability Requests and Medical Leaves for Academics - December 5, 2023

Engaging faculty and academics on matters related to medical disability or medical leave requests can be challenging. The goal is to initiate an interactive process to consider what accommodations, if any, can enable the individual to carry out the essential functions of their position. This session explored the shared responsibilities in providing reasonable accommodations and managing medical leaves for UC Davis faculty/academics.

Chairs Bag Lunch Open Session - November 15, 2023

This meeting was the first in a series of quarterly Open Sessions we are offering throughout the 2023-24 academic year. Chairs submitted questions and topics for discussion beforehand or during the freeform session and the Vice Provost and Academic Affairs personnel provided answers and guidance. Open Sessions for Chairs will also be held on February 7 and April 30, 2024.


Academic Advancement and Open Q&A - October 11, 2023

This session served as a continuation of our Chair's Role in Academic Advancement session discussion for those who attended our New Chairs Workshop for any remaining questions and, for returning chairs, a general open session for any questions as we start off the Fall quarter.

What's New in Academic Affairs - June 6, 2023

This session provided current and incoming chairs with updates from the Office of Academic Affairs and an opportunity to ask and have answered their questions.

Abusive Conduct Policy Information Sessions - May 9 and 24, 2023

 

These two sessions, led by Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies, provided information about the new Abusive Conduct Policy (effective January 1, 2023), how to navigate it, and understand how allegations are managed and processed.

Chairs Bag Lunch Open Session - May 2, 2023

This meeting was the final workshop in a series of quarterly Open Sessions we offered throughout the 2022-23 academic year. Chairs were able to submit questions and topics for discussion beforehand and during the freeform session and have the Vice Provost and Academic Affairs experts provide answers and guidance.


Academic Advancement: the Role of the Department Chair - April 26, 2023

This bag lunch session provided key information about what chairs need to know about the advancement process (including planning for extramural letters, actions needed between now and the Fall quarter, etc.) and an opportunity for chairs to have their advancement questions answered.

Managing Conflict in an Academic Community - March 15, 2023

Conflict within an academic department is inevitable given the complexities associated with operating within a large research university. This interactive conflict management session overviewed approaches to recognizing conflict (different types), strategies for intervening, and techniques for handling the aftermath.
