AAAS Mentor Awards: Lifetime Achievement

Distinguished Professor of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior Barbara Horwitz, who has made important contributions to the study of genetic, neural, and hormonal regulation of energy balance and changes with obesity and aging, counts the mentoring of students as one of the most important endeavors in academe. In her former role as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Horwitz also established the first faculty work-life programs at Davis.
Among his many accomplishments using spectroscopy, the splitting of light, Distinguished Professor Emeritus William Jackson is part of a group that developed a novel method for examining the composition of comets with ground-based telescopes.
